Thesis funding is offered by various French and international academic organizations, by foundations, private associations and institutions, local authorities, etc.

The methods for allocating this funding vary depending on their origin, and should be discussed with the phD supervisor.

ED 515 requires that all doctoral students be funded for the entire duration of the thesis.

Furthermore, by vote of the council in November 2017, the ED imposes for all doctoral students, regardless of their method of financing and their establishment (Sorbonne-Université or PSL), a monthly net income at least equal to the monthly net amount of the doctoral contract (according to the decree of the 26th of December, 2022).
