4th year derogation
The duration of a thesis is three years. Exceptionally, an exemption for a 4th registration may be granted after examination of the file and upon favorable opinion of the individual thesis monitoring committee (CSI).
According to the directives of the doctoral decree of May 25, 2016, all doctoral students must benefit from funding for the entire duration of the thesis.
During their third year, doctoral students receive by email an "end of thesis form" sent by the ED secretariat in which they must specify whether they plan to defend before the end of the 3rd year. or if they wish to request a derogation for a fourth year. In the second case, a derogation request file must be sent by email to the ED secretariat no later than the beginning of May and after the third year individual thesis monitoring committee has met and delivered its opinion on the request for a 4th year.
After examining the file, the ED management will issue an opinion no later than the end of May. If the opinion is favorable, the doctoral student will be able to begin the re-registration procedure in the 4th year at the beginning of September in their registration establishment according to the procedures communicated by the ED.
