Trainings

During their doctoral training course, doctoral students must follow training which supports the research project and the development of their professional project.

Trainings

Thesis directors and host teams undertake to authorize and participate in the financing of these training courses. These training courses aim to develop, deepen and diversify the knowledge and skills of doctoral students, in their scientific field and beyond.

The ED recommends a total of 100 hours of training for the entire thesis. These training courses can be professional training, theoretical scientific training, or practical training. Training linked to doctoral missions (teaching, research promotion, research dissemination, expertise) can be counted but not the teaching hours given by the doctoral student. Conferences and seminars do not count towards training hours.

The only compulsory training topic during the doctoral program concerns research ethics and scientific integrity. The doctoral school strongly recommends following the MOOC de l'université de Bordeaux on this topic.Conferences and training on research ethics are also provided by the doctoral colleges of Sorbonne Universités and PSL, as well as by various establishments (Pasteur Institute, Curie Institute).

In addition to this mandatory ethics training, the ED recommends that its doctoral students follow the online course on open science organisé par SU. For this course, it is necessary to register on both FUNMOOC and ADUM.

The ED training offer is organized in association with its various partners (Sorbonne University, PSL, host laboratories, Institut Pasteur, Institut Curie, Collège de France, etc.).

Information regarding these training courses as well as the catalog are available on le site de Sorbonne Université.

Registration for these training courses is done via the ADUM platform.

Any additional training, whether provided by a French or foreign research organization or by private training institutes, can potentially be validated by the ED. The choice is therefore very wide.

Registration procedures vary depending on the training. It is up to the doctoral student to contact those responsible for these training courses directly to register. Before doing so, you must contact the ED by email to ensure that they will be validated.

Suivi des formations

The doctoral student must keep the list of training courses he or she has completed up to date and keep the certificates of attendance. The doctoral student declares his or her training on ADUM via his or her profile for validation by the ED. A report on the training followed will be requested in the report sheets of the thesis monitoring committees, as well as at the start of the 3rd year and at the time of the thesis defense presentation request. To monitor their training, doctoral students are advised to regularly update their “training” tab on ADUM.

The declaration of training on ADUM is done after having followed the training (you will need to upload proof of certification).

If you want to know in advance whether a training course will be counted by the ED in your 100 hours of training or not, please note that the training hours in the catalogs of the doctoral colleges of SU and PSL indicated above are always validated by the ED, no need to ask us. To ensure that the training hours you would like to follow outside of these catalogs will be validated by the ED, ask us by sending us an email to edcdv@sorbonne-university.fr indicating:

  • the training program (or a link giving access to it),
  • the name of the organization providing the training
  • the number of hours of training
  • the training certification method (attendance certificate, final exam, etc.)
